Meet the Coaches

Frank Mulcrone Founder

Brother Rice ‘89

Frank was a member of the Brother Rice High School swimming and water polo programs. He was named a member of the All-State team all four years, earned the MVP of the State tournament his senior season, as well as earned the Tony Lawless Award for the Chicago Catholic League. Mulcrone was also inducted into the Circle of Champions, the Brother Rice athletic hall of fame in 2013. 

Frank continued his swimming and water polo career at the East Coast powerhouse, Slippery Rock University (SRU), where he was a member of the 1991 NCAA Division 1 Championship qualifying team, finishing 7th in the nation. Frank achieved many records and honors, including water polo NCAA Division 1 three-time All American from 1991 to 1993, swimming NCAA Division 2 All-American for the 200-yard freestyle, and a inducted into the Illinois Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2003.

“I was coached by two of the best coaches in the country, my father ‘Moose’ and my college coach Doc Hunkler,” Frank said. “They always stressed paying back to the sport after our playing careers ended. Water polo has given me many great opportunities in my life, and I plan on repaying my love of water polo back to the program and players.”

Frank resides in Chicago with his wife Lisa and sons Sean and Ryan.


Mike Gruszeczki

Mike Gruszeczki began playing water polo for Portage Park. He graduated from Fenwick High School in 1994 where he was a member of 2 Illinois State Championship Swim Teams. He was a member of 3 State Championship Water Polo Teams at Fenwick. In high school, Mike was a member of the United States National Youth Team and competed internationally for Team USA. He also represented the North Zone in the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival. 

Mike coached boy’s water polo at Fenwick High School from 1998 to 2004, with Dave Perry. While coaching at Fenwick, Mike help guide 5 State Championship teams in 7 years. Mike also coached several club teams at the National Junior Olympics. Mike attended DePaul University College of Law, graduating Cum Laude in 2007. During and after law school, Mike officiated for the IHSA and Collegiate Water Polo Association. He was inducted into the Illinois Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2007.

Since moving to the Beverly area where Mike lives with his wife Nora and their three children, Mike joined CAPC with Frank Mulcrone, stating, “I share Frank’s vision of giving back to the sport of water polo. Water polo is a great sport and has provided me with lifelong friendships and positive memories. I look forward to continuing to teach the sport of water polo at CAPC.”


Joel Staszewski- Brother Rice 93

Joel played at Brother Rice High school. He attended Western Ill. University where he played club polo. He coached polo at CHSAS and Richards HS. Joel currently coaches the McAuley swim team

He lives on the Southside of Chicago with his wife Jill and children Emma, Tim, Nora, Lillian and Claire.

Marcus M. Meyer

Coach Meyer started playing polo at Fenwick. He went on to be a state qualifier in swimming, and he won a State Championship in water polo. He attended the University of Massachusetts and competed in both swimming and water polo finishing 3rd & 4th place finish at the D1 NCAA Championships. He returned to Fenwick in 2004 to coach swim and water polo. He coaches ODP, where he was named the Midwest Cadet Head Coach and Awarded Cadet Top Coach for the East/West Regional in 2011. He resides in Homer Glen with his wife Alice and sons Michael, Max and Danny.

Scott Hindhaugh

Scott became involved in the water polo world when his oldest daughter Andi started playing. Scott is very stat orientated coach bringing knowledge from his years playing baseball. Coach Scott is Assistant water polo & swim coach at Brother Rice HS

He resides in Lockport with his wife Jennifer and 2 daughters.

William Mulcrone- Brother Rice ‘96 

Bill was a dominant force in the water at Brother Rice carrying on the family legacy. Four year member of the swimming and waterpolo team, three time first team and three state championships. MVP of state in 1996. Bill went on to play at Iona University earning a collegiate all american. Serving as team captain in 2000, Bill led the gaels in scoring in 1999-2000. Once home Bill coached along side his father and brother Frank from 1998-2002. He took over coaching at Brother Rice from 2003-2013 winning a state championship

Coach Bill lives in Evergreen Park with his wife Maura and twins Maggie and Brian
